What is Tally Prime XML Import — and Why It Saves You Hours?
Tally Prime lets you import vouchers (Purchase, Sales, Payment, Receipt) directly from an XML file — instead of entering each entry manually. This is called Tally XML Import, accessible via Import (Alt+O) → Transactions in Tally Prime (or Gateway of Tally → Import of Data → Vouchers in Tally ERP 9).
The problem? Creating that XML file manually is complex — it requires a specific tag structure, correct ledger polarity, and properly escaped special characters. One small mistake crashes the import.
Our tools solve this completely. You fill a simple Excel template (just like a register), upload it here, and download a perfectly formatted XML in seconds. No coding. No manual XML editing. Tested with real Tally Prime data.

Everything you need to know about our Tally XML tools
Is this tool really free? Are there any hidden charges?
Yes, completely free. No subscription, no credit card, no trial period. We plan to keep these tools free forever, supported by non-intrusive display ads once the site has sufficient traffic. There are no hidden charges of any kind.
Is my data safe? Does my Excel file get uploaded to any server?
Your data is 100% private. The entire file processing happens inside your browser using JavaScript. Your Excel file is never uploaded to any server — not ours, not anyone else's. You can verify this by opening the browser's Network tab while using the tool; you'll see zero file upload requests.
Does this work with Tally ERP 9 or only Tally Prime?
The generated XML is compatible with both Tally Prime and Tally ERP 9. The XML import format (ENVELOPE → BODY → IMPORTDATA structure) has not changed between these versions. Our users have successfully imported with both.
What if my column names are slightly different in my Excel file?
Our tools use a case-insensitive, space-insensitive column matcher. So "VoucherNo", "voucher no", "VOUCHER NO" and "Voucher No" will all work. However, we recommend using the downloadable template as a starting point to avoid confusion.
My party name has a "&" symbol (like "A & Sons"). Will it cause an error in Tally?
No. Our tool automatically escapes special XML characters — "&" becomes "&" in the XML, which Tally reads correctly as "&". This was a known crash cause that we specifically fixed. You can safely use "&", quotes, and other special characters in party names.
Can I import hundreds of vouchers at once?
Yes. The tools handle large files well. For files with 500+ rows, a loading indicator appears while the XML is being generated so the browser doesn't appear frozen. There's no enforced limit, though very large files (5000+ rows) may take a few seconds depending on your device speed.
